ACQUI TERME

A BIT OF HISTORY

Situated in the gentle hills of the Monferrato, Acqui Terme was founded in 173 BC, by the Romans. The Ligurians took it over and it became the administrative headquarters and trading centre on the Roman road Aemilia Scauria, which connected Tortona with Vado Ligure.

September Festa delle Feste: -All the local villages vie to provide the best food at stalls in the centre of town. -Wine fair. October Literary awards: prize-giving evening. November Festival of Saint Catherine: market stalls in the centre of town and amusement park -Truffle fair.

There are Roman remains to admire all around Acqui Terme, the aqueduct, the Roman piscina, the remains of the baths and of course the

important relics of daily life in Roman times, displayed in the museum, which is housed in a building dating from the XI century.

THE SPA

A hot spring emerges in the centre of the town at a temperature of 75°C.
These thermal waters and mud are renowned for the treatment of many illnesses, as well as for their use in beauty treatments.
Treatments are available at the Town Spa, the Grand Hotel Nuove Terme and the Hotel Regina.
The waters are classified in Italy as the highest level.
